I'm not the kind of person who would spam chat, bully others or be rude, so SSO I think you've gone a bit over the top. Computers just won't cut it, and I think I would be safe to believe that the people getting banned are not the ones causing trouble, their probably the ones who make spelling mistakes, or are just chatting normally. But, it would be hard to get SSO to do something like this because now they'd have to pay actual people to mod and there would be no 100% guarantee that they'd be good moderators. Mods can only do so much. There's no guarantee they can be in the game 100% of the time, and since mods are humans with only so much focus time, they can't keep track of every conversation. Considering how many servers there are, they'd need a substantial amount of mods to count for every minute of every day in every server plus they'd need multiple mods in the game at one time. That would cost a fortune, and i'm not sure SSO has the funds to pay everyone. Volunteer comes with issues in and of itself. People are more unreliable in volunteer positions, and there's little motivation to get the work done, and more chances they'll either randomley quit, or stop because it's too much work. This doesn't apply to everyone, but i get the vibes when people "I want to be a mod" that they don't fully understand all the responsibilities and want the title without the responsibility. Hopefully they will add some mods, but for the game size, and what we as the consumers are demanding, i don't think it's 100% realistic. The chat filter allows them deal with things all at once, but i feel like they need to get on top with this chat thing. There's always going to be issues and in the end, there will always be undesirable and foul people to be found. But there are a lot of different options on how to handle it. The automod has spread to a lot of different servers at this point - we don't even know how this works, though. Like at all. But it's primary purpose seems to automatically suspend and remove players from chat based on filtered words and combined phrases. SSO tells people that they can't 'undo the bans' if you get it, which is not only odd, but very uncool for anyone caught up in the backlash. Since they don't actually tell us a single thing about how this feature works beyond it suspending people, we don't know what to avoid or what the 'rules' this bot follows are. Is it like a lot of other automatic moderating bots that use an AI and learn over time? Is it set to strictly toss out and remove completely on its own based on a list of words/phrases or is this scaled to log offenses and then toss out anyone that meets a certain criteria? How do they intend to 'adjust' it - does that mean simply adding or removing word or will they seriously adjust and change this entire feature? I also understand that they don't have to tell us anything, but it would be nice if they could try to show us a little bit of what is going on here. Personally, I find it really shady that they seem to closed off and it feels like they're keeping us at arms length at all times. When it's something with this big of an effect on the game itself, and regarding such an important feature, it's a good idea to explain properly what's going on so players know how things work and investing time, money and general resources into it seems like a logical thing to do. Hiring a team of moderators for each server would obviously cost a whole lot, but there's a lot between 'no human mods, only auto' and 'absolutely no auto, only humans'. A lot of other places that implement automatic moderating combine it with human moderators. Automods can catch spam better than any human mod and I think it would be a great tool for a moderator team to use. If those moderators are paid or players that want to help, who cares. It's never going to be perfect, that's just how it is. Maybe it's a combo. But this automod cannot replace human beings monitoring and moderating a community and to a certain degree, communities need that. The community is giving them feedback, but so far they don't appear to want to listen to the fact that their bot isn't popular. And tbh this bot seems painfully simple and rigid to the point where it's almost a joke and yeah, it downright sucks. Especially as the chats on my server, despite this thing having suspended a whole lot of people from chat already, is still full of spam and nasty. It's not even working that well, apparently, though chat is significantly less crowded. But that's the only difference I've noticed so far. Sorry to rant even more on this, but this is genuinely riling me up. I tend to believe that the issue is SSO is having is twofold: 1. The game has been steadily growing its player base over the past few years and they just don't have the staff to allocate to monitoring/dealing with the problems that arise in chat. 2. They don't have the funds to invest into the technology and staff needed to properly moderate the chat and punish offenders. Now, I will say this - As someone who has been playing games online for longer than some of you have been alive (man, that's such a depressing statement lol), I expect bad behavior in any game where people have the ability to interact with one another, so I'm not surprised or shocked when I see or hear something that's offensive. I mean honestly, nobody can be surprised when this happens in an online environment-it's the nature of the beast. But just because bad behavior is expected, that obviously doesn't make it right, so it should be dealt with. For me, I just report, ignore and go about my day. This may be slightly off topic, but I get the impression that people feel that because children play this game that extra special precautions need to be taken to ensure they don't read anything that they shouldn't be reading. While I agree with that on some level, there are children playing all kind of online games right alongside adults (WoW, Call of Duty, Overwatch, Final Fantasy-the list goes on) and none of those games go to such extreme measures as SSO does to make communicating with other people practically impossible. Not to mention, in most situations where there is any cost involved in playing a game, that money is being paid by an adult. So in a way, the game will also have to target the people with a steady cash flow, which are usually adults. Having said that, I do think that parents need to be more mindful of what their kids are doing online and how much time they spend on the computer and not just leave them to their own devices. Personally, I feel like SSO needs to rework this crazy filtering system they have in place and introduce a "normal" profanity filter that most other games have. They could maybe even make it an option in the account settings that could be toggled by the parent if they have a younger child who plays. Then they need to hire more people to handle the chat aspect of the game on a regular basis. It would be cool if they could do something like Blizzard does when you report someone in Overwatch - After someone is reported, you get a pop-up the next time you log in letting you know that action was taken against that person. You're not told the details, but at least you know your report was seen and handled. And action is taken quickly, usually in under 24 hours. Anyway, I do hope that you guys get a resolution soon so you can go back to being social without having to be worried about getting a ridiculous ban for no reason. Yes, this is very true and something I considered while I was typing my post. I just think that the game has evolved and will continue to evolve and I can see the demographic swinging more in the direction of young adults and just the older crowd in general. I know they talk about Learning and Development but when I hear this phrase, I immediately think about these really lame, boring courses I'm forced to take at work that are supposed to help me with my various job duties-not an online horse game lol. While I get the direction they're trying to go with their description of the game, I don't see SSO as some online learning tool for children. Maybe that's what their initial vision was of the game, but like I said, it's evolved. This is now a MMO with a wide range of age groups that wouldn't exist if it weren't for teenagers/adults with jobs throwing money at the developers on a regular basis. I feel like if SSO really was just a program used to teach children social skills and problem solving abilities, there wouldn't be a need for them to feel like they have to produce new content on such a regular basis and make content only available by spending real life money. Maybe it's time they consider making some changes to what their original vision was for the game and make it more in line with what the game has actually become. This game, omg, this GAME thought it was a good idea to BAN ME from the chat for THREE DAYS because I said something in MY LANGUAGE that wasn't even near to cursing. I litarally said, and I translate: "Hey, I'm going to leave this group bc I'm doing quests with my friend" and the game was like NO, THATS CURSING, YOU'RE BANNED YOU NAUGHTY RAT. Okay, I'm sorry for the rant, it's just that's SO unfair. As I've said before, my server is not an English-speaking one, and now you're going to ban people because some words in their language are cursing in yours? This is so wrong. And the worst part, the cherry on top of the cake, they don't even let other people know that you're banned. I was paying with my friend and, all of a sudden, I stop answering her. She thinks I was ignoring her for no reason, and gets angry with me. If you're going to ban people anyway FINE, but at least show other people that thay can't talk, are unavailable or something. Seriously. I don't even know what to say anymore. I will contact them, even though by the time they answer me the ban will have already gone away and so will I - since I'm going to Spain for 2 WEEKS and won't be able to play there. I simpatize so much with all that also got banned for no reason. I hope by the time I get back this horrendus filter will have at least improved. Best to you all. One said 'I went down to far' the other said 'spazz' and the other said 'good morning' so... its definitely on the NA servers. Brings to mind AJ's system which is far better because instead of just having people watching the chat it has an in-game reporting system and human moderators that personally view every report and take action, sometimes really quickly. Bans were very rare and nearly all automatic suspensions were only for 15 minutes or so. There was one time where someone actually got into my account, stole my rare items and then got me suspended for days. If it was SSO it would've been a ban and I would've lost my account altogether.
